Decide how you want to create your flip-book. You can, for example, use a graphic program, ranging from a free and basic program like Microsoft Paint to a complex and powerful program like Photoshop or GIMP, to create each page of your flip-book. Alternatively, you could hand draw each page.
Brainstorm ideas for your flip-book. Consider the length you need your flip-book to be to create your “animation.” You may want to create a simple story outline for your flip-book that unfolds as the action progresses.
Draw out your scenes, with each drawing slightly different than the previous one. If you are hand-drawing the flip book, put the pictures on subsequent pages of the notebook or post-it pad. The trick is to create elements within each scene that when “flipped” will fool the eye into seeing motion. So, if you have a dog and a boy running next to a white picket fence, you want to make changes to individual elements in each subsequent drawing. In this example, you would move the boy's and dog's legs, changing the position of each character's arms and head. Make minor changes to the objects in the background -- in this case, the fence and sky.
Print out your computer-created flip book and assemble it, or have it professionally printed. A print shop in your community is one option for printing your flip-book. You can also use an online printing service that will allow you to upload each page of your flip-book and will then print and bind as many copies as your order.
