Combine all dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. If preschoolers are helping you, assist them in measuring and pouring the dry ingredients into the bowl. They can then use their hands to mix the flour, salt, drink mix and cream of tartar.
Add the oil and water, and mix thoroughly. Transfer the mixture to the sauce pan once it is combined.
Cook the mixture over medium heat until it forms a stiff ball.
Remove the dough from the sauce pan and place it on wax paper to cool.
Place the dough in an airtight container when not in use. It will last for weeks if it is kept covered. The drink mix will give the dough a bright, uniform color and a pleasing scent. This dough is non-toxic and not harmful if accidentally tasted or swallowed.
