How to Make a Magnetic Fishing Pole With Preschoolers

Preschoolers need many activities to keep their attention. Instead of creating many projects for one day, you should have the children make magnetic fishing poles. Making them will keep the children's minds and hands occupied as they attempt to attach all of the parts. After the fishing pole is made, the children can spend hours playing games with the magnetic fish.

Things You'll Need

  • Two-sided magnets
  • Wooden dowels
  • Crayons
  • Blank printer paper
  • Hot glue gun
  • Glue sticks
  • Scissors
  • String
  • Scotch tape

Instructions

Show the children how to make a simple slip knot. To do this, make a loop with the string. Pass the long end under the loop. Make another loop with the long end and pass it through the first loop. Tighten the loop around the magnet. Make sure that each knot is snugly secured around it.

Glue the empty side of the string to one end of the dowel. Let it sit for a couple of minutes before giving back the dowel to the child. Make sure that the preschoolers do not touch the hot glue while it is drying.

Make the magnetic fish if you have not already done so. Outline the fish on the paper. Cut out the fish so that every fish has its partner. Color the fish. Take two fish and tape them together. Leave a little slit to insert the magnet. After you have put the magnet into the fish, tape up the remainder of the open area.
