Create a theme. For a bulletin board to be cute, it should be attractively organized and everything should go together. Align the theme with curriculum or choose a theme that serves another classroom purpose, such as getting to know everyone in the class. Books read in class, holidays, seasons, animals, favorite cartoon characters and the alphabet all make excellent themes.
Design a color-scheme so that the content on the bulletin board matches. Choose a solid background in lighter color hues, or use a background with simple design such as a gingham print design. Select a border in darker hues so it frames the contents on the board. Use the same stencils for all the lettering to make it clearer for reading.
Make large visuals. Incorporate text, but let the pictures do most of the talking. For example, add pictures of furry baby animals or dainty flowers. Make the visuals vibrant with color so that they really stand out and grab a preschooler's attention. Use lots of color and detail while still keeping the overall board clutter free. Use different papers and decorations. Instead of just using construction paper, use scrap-booking paper and add textures like faux fur. Mix in photos whenever possible.
Find a catchy title or saying you can add to the board to tie in the theme to the board's decoration. For example, if the board is going to be used to display preschoolers photos for the purpose of helping the class get to know each other, it might be titled something like "Growing Up in Mrs. Smith's Patch."
Change the bulletin board displays regularly. Changing them at least once a month is recommended. If the bulletin board is not updated for a long period of time, children stop seeing it and it becomes ineffective as it blends into the environment. Always come up with a fresh new design instead.
