Fruit shapes are fairly simple for small children to cut out. Have them cut out oranges, bananas, apples, strawberries or blueberries from construction paper. Next ask them to decorate the fruit with funny faces, cutting out eyes, noses and mouths, or offer various craft pieces for them to use such as buttons, yarn, googly eyes and felt that can all be attached with glue.
Give each child four or five pieces of yellow construction paper. They will each trace their hands to the paper and cut the outline out. Encourage children to work together by asking them to trace a partner's hand instead. They will also cut out one large yellow circle. Glue the handprints all around the circle to make a sun with shining rays. Kids can make sunglasses to glue on their sun by cutting out black construction paper or have kids glue googly eyes on the sun and draw on a smile with orange or black marker.
Fold the paper ahead of time since it may be too difficult for children to do. Once the paper is in the correct triangle shape, each child can cut out their own designs. Children can add some glitz to the snowflakes by gluing on silver glitter. They can give the snowflakes as gifts or use them to decorate their windows at home. You can also have them take all their paper snowflakes and make a mobile by stringing the snowflakes with fish hook wire and attaching them to a hanger.
To celebrate the coming of spring, have children cut out petals and make bright flowers. To welcome fall, a pumpkin shape is fairy simple for kids to cut. They can then either cut out more pieces for a jack-o-lantern face or draw one on with black marker or crayon. Ghosts are also easy to cut out and only need two eyes and a mouth for detail. For the holidays, children can cut out a Menorah with added candles or a Christmas tree shape with glitter-glue ornaments for the branches. They can also cut out three white circles to make a snowman to represent winter.
