Preschool Bulletin Boards Ideas for Apples

Apple themes abound in preschool classrooms during the fall. If you're looking for a way to spruce up your classroom, start here with some fun and creative apple bulletin board themes. Whether your bulletin board is educational, fun, or a showcase of student work, you can coordinate it with your apple theme easily.
  1. History Lesson

    • Use your bulletin board to tell the story of Johnny Appleseed, and it can double as a circle time or story time resource. Johnny Appleseed wandered the wilderness (now known as the Midwest) planting apple seeds as he went. He planted trees in several states and some of those trees still exist today.

Johnny Appleseed wanted people to see beauty in the trees and gain nourishment from their apples. On your bulletin board, start with a large apple tree. Use brown paper sacks, twisted up, to make the trunk. You can have the kids cut their hand prints out of green paper for the leaves, and use cutout apples to adorn it. Then get a picture of Johnny Appleseed from the Internet (or make a cutout of a man with a pot on his head and bare feet) and put him under the tree. Show a U.S. map and mark the locations Johnny traveled and planted; write a short biography of him and post it to the board as well.

    Science Board

    • You can use your bulletin board to show the stages of apple growth, from seed to tree to fruit.

You can also explain the nutritional qualities of apples, talking about how they are an important part of the fruits and vegetables food group on the food pyramid.
Include apple recipes and try them out with your class during your next science lesson, as the students accurately measure and combine ingredients.

    Other Ideas

    • Make a basic apple tree and write the children's names on each apple. Then cut out large lettering to form the phrase, "Our Good Apples," across the top of the board.

Cut apples in half, and dip the flat side in paint. Then stamp the paint onto the board. Lay the paper out flat on the table and let the paint dry before hanging it on the bulletin board.

Include pictures of the different kinds of apples, from Golden Delicious to Granny Smith and McIntosh. Include fun facts about apple orchards and how farmers grow apples. You can include a list of items that are made from apples; staple labels from applesauce and apple juices and ciders onto the board. Arrange a field trip to a local orchard so they can see the process first-hand.
