How to Convert from Mass to Grams

The gram, abbreviated g, is a metric unit of measurement used to quantify mass. The standard unit for mass in the metric system is the kilogram, which equals 1,000 grams. The milligram, or mg, also represents mass in the metric system. The ounce, pound and grain are measures of weight in the imperial system. Conversions from grams to these measures take gravity into account. If you have multiple mass measurements in different units and you want to find out how the masses compare to each other, you need to convert to a common unit, such as the gram.
