How to Convert From Milligrams to Micrograms

Milligrams and micrograms measure mass. Both are variations of the gram, just with a prefix added. The metric system regularly uses prefixes for units of various sizes. All prefixes are related by a power of 10. For example, the prefix "milli-" represents 0.001 while the prefix "micro-" represents 0.000001. Therefore, each milligram equals 1,000 micrograms. You might need to convert if you want to compare two masses, but one is in milligrams while the other is in micrograms.
