How to Convert a Mg Into a Gram

The gram, abbreviated g, is a basic unit of mass in the metric system. For smaller masses, the milligram, abbreviated mg, is used. The prefix "milli-" represents 0.001, meaning that it takes 1,000 mg to equal 1 g. If you have masses of different objects listed, some in milligrams and some in grams, you need to convert from milligrams to grams to compare the measurements accurately.
