Kindergarten Graduation Dress Ideas

Kindergarten graduation is a milestone in a child's life. Although it may seem trivial, this is one of his first big accomplishments. Taking part in a graduation ceremony can fulfill a student's desire to feel important. A kindergarten graduation can mimic a high school ceremony or be geared more toward fun, but the most important aspect should be to highlight a child's accomplishments.
  1. Color Scheme

    • Traditional black is not the only choice for a kindergarten graduation. Use the school colors or a combination of fun colors that students choose. Let students vote on the colors used in the graduation outfits. Consider incorporating the colors of the rainbow.

    Graduation Cap

    • Let students make their own caps for graduation. Each child will need a square of heavy cardboard, approximately 7 x 7 inches, a Styrofoam bowl, one brad and ribbon to tie the hat on his head. Paint the cardboard and bowls and dry before constructing. Punch holes on opposite edges of the bowl and string a ribbon through. Punch a hole in the middle of the cardboard. Attach the cardboard to the bottom of the bowl with a metal brad. The graduation cap will be worn with the bowl over the child's head. Add a yarn tassel to the top of the cap. A fun tassel can be made from any color of yarn. Wrap a piece of yarn to the brad on the top of the cap. Tie a pom pom or bell to the other end to that it hangs down by the student's cheek.

    Traditional Outfit Ideas

    • Traditional caps and gowns can be ordered from a graduation supply company. Alternately, a parent, or committee of parents, can sew simple gowns from shiny material in the color of choice. Boys can wear dress pants, white dress shirts and ties. Girls can be wear white dresses for a formal graduation.

    Creative Outfit Ideas

    • Let the kids have a hand in designing their graduation attire. Large T-shirts can be decorated with paint, hand prints or fabric crayons. Each child could wear a cape instead of a gown. Another idea is to have students dress for the future. Instruct them to come dressed up in an outfit they might wear when they are grown up. For example, a future doctor can come in a lab coat, while an upcoming businessman can dress in a suit.
