Encourage children to bring a costume to change into for the class Halloween party. Make eye masks using construction paper. Cut out two holes for the eyes and glue a pipe cleaner on one side for a handle. Divide the class into groups and give each group a large piece of paper. Give them assorted items such as sticks, pieces of fabric, and buttons and ask them to work together to make a scarecrow on the paper. For a game, set up two pumpkin buckets and have kids throw candy corn or a bean bag into the bucket. They get a piece of candy when they make it into the bucket.
The Christmas party may be the most anticipated school event for kids in kindergarten. Throw a party to remember with edible treats, games and a guest visit from Santa. Make round sugar cookies and let kids ice them and decorate them to look like ornaments. Read "The Polar Express" and give each student a bell to decorate. Have a relay race by dividing the class into teams and giving each team a spoon. The students have to carry candy on the spoon to their designated stocking at the other end of the room. See which team can fill up the stocking first.
Let students vote on the best Valentines box by giving each student a heart sticker to put on the box of his choice. The winner gets a Valentine candy or cookie. Cut out paper hearts and then cut each heart down the middle with a jagged line to make a heart puzzle. Each student receives a half of a heart and has to find its match in the class. Serve pink lemonade and little sandwiches shaped like hearts using a cookie cutter.
Make a "then and now picture frame" using a picture from the beginning of the year and a picture from the end of the year. Glue Popsicle sticks together to form two windows for each of the pictures. Let kids paint and decorate the frames. Have kids make up silly (or serious) awards for each other or let the teacher and parents come up with awards. Present the awards at the graduation party. Make graduation punch and have a toast to the year completed and the year ahead.
