A beach party is ideal in the dreary winter months. Invite students to bring in beach towels and beach clothes such as shorts and tank tops. Crank up the heat in the classroom and spread towels out on the floor. Play steel drum music and serve children ice pops, lemonade and ice cream. Eat lunch sitting on your towels as though you're really at the beach. Bring in buckets of damp sand so children can make sand castles.
A book party is an enjoyable reward that also stresses the importance of books. Choose a favorite classroom book for each party theme. Photocopy the pages of the book and turn them into place mats or wall decorations. Ask children to choose one book character to be for the length of the party. Children can wear clothes like their characters wear to the party. Make up a board game and create your own snacks based on the book.
As long as it's not raining or snowing, take your reward party outside for a field day full of active games. Spend a few hours playing kickball and tag. Organize games such as water balloon tosses and burlap sack races. Bring a picnic lunch outside and eat in the grass. Take some messy art projects outside for when children get tired of running around. Spread out old bedsheets for children to paint, and let children draw on sidewalks with chalk. Bring plenty of water outside so children can stay hydrated.
Most kindergartners haven't yet been on a sleepover, so this type of party will be new and exciting. Ask children to bring in pajamas, slippers and robes to change into when it's party time. Students can also bring in sleeping bags or their favorite blankets. Once everyone's cozy on the floor, pass out sleepover snacks such as popcorn or ice cream. Turn off the lights and play a movie. This party is not only fun, but it introduces children to the concept of sleepovers while they're in a safe environment.
