Halloween Party Ideas for Kindergarten

Kindergarten children eagerly practice the customs and traditions associated with holiday celebrations. However, some of the traditions common to Halloween celebrations frighten young children who still struggle to discern the lines that separate reality and fantasy. Select decorations, games, treats and activities that make the party Halloween-themed and special. Use discretion to ensure that the items and activities are age appropriate for kindergarten children.
  1. Halloween Party Decorations

    • Enlist the children's help in decorating your classroom for the party. Their hands-on participation demystifies spooky Halloween themes that are still relatively new to kindergarten children. Let them paint a jack-o'-lantern mural on a large piece of butcher paper and hang it on a wall. Ask the children to decorate with orange and black crepe paper and streamers. Add miniature white or orange lights and balloons to create a special atmosphere that will not frighten your kindergarten party guests.

    Halloween Party Games

    • Channel holiday excitement into Halloween party games. Arrange five plastic trick-or-treat buckets in a row. Beginning with the bucket closest to her, a child stands at the end of the row and throws an orange pingpong ball into each bucket. Another idea is providing an old game, Pin the Tail on the Donkey, with a new Halloween theme. Make a large orange pumpkin from poster paper. Cut out a stem from green construction paper and laminate it. Kindergarten children will love to pin the stem on the pumpkin. Feature another familiar favorite; play musical chairs with Halloween music.

    Halloween Party Treats

    • Transform a traditional party mix snack into a Halloween party treat. Combine 10 cups of popped popcorn, 1 package of peanut butter chips, 1 cup of candy corn and 1 cup of chocolate chips. Mix well and serve in a large bowl. Ghostly cookies are easily prepared with peanut-shaped peanut butter cookies. Dip the cookies in melted white chocolate, then decorate each face with mini chocolate chips. Lemonade gets spooky for the party when you add green food coloring and serve it in a witch's cauldron with dry ice.

    Halloween Picture Frame Activity

    • Take a digital picture of each child engaged in party fun and print the pictures. Give each child a foam picture frame and an assortment of adhesive foam Halloween shapes, stickers and glitter glue. Allow the children to create a Halloween-themed frame for their pictures.
