Ideas for Kindergarten Easter Projects

Warm weather, colorful eggs and the Easter Bunny are all apart of the fun of the Easter holiday. For kindergarten teachers the holiday is an opportunity to have the students create projects that teach the students about colors, numbers and further develop their motor skills. Have the students work on engaging group projects as well as individual projects.
  1. Easter Bunny Ears

    • Have the students create bunny ears that they can wear and pretend to be bunnies. For this simple project, the students have to tape two strips of white construction paper together to make one long strip. Help the students cut out long oval strips out of more white construction paper, then smaller ovals out of pink construction paper. Have the children paste the pink ovals in the middle of the white ovals to make the bunny ears. Then attach the bunny ears to the middle of the strip. Staple the strips to fit each child's head.

    Easter Eggs

    • Have the students dye Easter eggs, which will also help them learn about colors. Bring in a few dozen cooked white eggs to the classroom. Set up several clear plastic cups and add 1 tbsp. of food coloring to each cup along with 2 tsp. of vinegar. Fill the cups halfway with water. Write each child's name in permanent marker on their eggs and have them take turns placing the eggs in the water. If it's not too much of a hassle, allow the children to dip their eggs multiple times in different colors to see how it changes their egg. Talk to them about what colors are their favorite and why. Dry the eggs in the empty egg cartons and allow the kids to take their eggs home.

    Easter Celebrations

    • People celebrate the Easter holiday in different ways depending on their background. Send the children home with a note to their parents asking the children to bring pictures that they can put in a shoebox that represents how they celebrate Easter. Students then use the shoebox to create a diorama, taping the pictures inside the box along with any mementos or other items. During circle time, each child gets to present her box to the class and explain how she celebrates Easter. Another idea is to have the kids create a collage using family pictures as well as pictures from children's magazines to create Easter collages.

    All About Bunnies

    • Discuss real bunnies with the class, talking about their anatomy, what they like to eat and their environment. Divide the glass into small groups and give each an outline of a bunny rabbit. Have the students work together to cut out and paste on the bunny body parts such as the ears and the tail. Use pictures from magazines and have the children paste pictures of what the bunnies eat in the stomach area. Have the group come up with a name for their bunny and a funny story about him. Have the groups one at a time get up and present their bunny to the rest of the class.
