Keep class fun. Though kindergarten students need to learn some of the building blocks of their education, realize that they are very young. Very young students need stimulation and fun incorporated into learning in order to keep their interest. Plan group songs and games so that everyone can interact together. Once you've established a laid back, enjoyable setting, the kids will automatically take a liking to you.
Reward students for good behavior. Hand out a sticker a day for completing assignments or lining up for recess quickly and safely. Give students verbal rewards and praise when they have done something that you've asked them to do. Show them that you appreciate their efforts. Don't be afraid to withhold rewards when a student acts up. This won't make students dislike you; it will make them respect you, which also builds rapport.
Play games intended to help students get to know one another. By sitting students in a circle and asking them questions, such as their favorite foods or what they want to be when they grow up, you get to know a little about them. Answer the questions as they do so that they can get to know you as well. Ask questions that are easily relatable for most students so that no one feels singled out.
Don't set up activities for your students to do and then just watch. Get involved as well. Students can tell when you are having fun. Don't be afraid to be one of the kids sometimes. For example, if you are teaching the kids a song, sing along with them once they learn it. If you are relaxed and enjoying your time, it will help the students to relax and focus on the task or game that you have organized.
