Letter T Kindergarten Ideas

Learning to identify letters and their sounds is an important part of kindergarten curriculum. Teachers can incorporate letters, such as the letter T, into art projects and activities to keep the students focused and the learning fun. Letter T art projects can be displayed in the classroom to remind students of what they have learned or sent home to show parents and siblings.
  1. Tissue Paper Windows

    • Help your kindergarten students create a letter T craft to hang in the classroom. Give each student a capital and lowercase letter T cut out of paper and instruct the students to decorate their letters with crayons. Give each student an 8 1/2 inch by 11 inch piece of wax paper. Help the children brush glue on the wax paper and stick torn pieces of colored tissue paper over its surface to create a stained glass window. Have the children glue their letters in the center of the completed windows. Create frames for the pieces of art by cutting the center out of a piece of construction paper. Glue the frames around the edges of the wax paper. Hang these letter T tissue paper windows in a classroom window or on a bulletin board for display.

    Coloring Pages

    • Create coloring pages that will teach children to recognize the sound of the letter T. Find or draw pictures of various items on a blank piece of paper. At least half of the pictures should be of an item or animal whose name begins with T. For example, draw a turtle, lion, tooth, flower, train, mouse and toe. Make copies of these sheets and pass one out to each kindergarten student. Instruct the children to say the names of the pictures aloud to determine which ones start with the letter T. Provide crayons or markers for the students and instruct them to color only the pictures whose names start with T.

    Tip Toe Parade

    • Participate in this T-themed activity with your kindergarten class. Give each child a piece of construction paper that contains a capital T traced on it. Allow the children time to decorate their letter using crayons, markers and glitter. Help each child cut out their letter, punch a hole in its top and string it on a piece of yarn. Tie the ends of the yarn together to form a necklace and instruct each child to wear it around their necks. Have the children line up and explain that you are going to have a Tip Toe Parade. Put on some music and lead the children around the room making sure that they only tip toe as they go. If desired, you can help the children make tambourines with paper plates and beans to play during the parade.

    Letter T Mobiles

    • This letter T craft can be sent home with the children so they will have a reminder of what they've learned. Ask the students to bring a wire hanger or stick to class with them. Have a few extras set aside for those students who forget. Give each kindergartner a piece of construction paper that contains a capital and lowercase letter T, a picture of a turtle, tooth, train and tiger. Allow the children time to color these pictures and assist in cutting them out. Help the students punch holes in the top of each picture and hang them from the wire hanger or stick with pieces of yarn. Add a piece of yarn in a loop around the top of the stick to act as a hanger. Send the mobiles home with the students and ask them to hang them in their room.
