The Austin Alternative Learning Center is located in East Austin and services students who have been removed from a traditional classroom environment. Removals can be instigated because of behavioral problems, drug use, fights and truancy. Students are required to wear white shirts and pants with a belt, and can stay at the school from two weeks to a full semester. The school is attached to the East Austin Boys and Girls Club.

The Learning Alternative Center for Empowering Youth, known as LACEY, is an alternative school for middle school students in grades 6-8 in the Dallas Independent School District. The school focuses on small class size, with only thirty teachers on campus. Students are required to wear a uniform with shirt colors designated by grade level.
