Olde Orchard is a literature-based alternative elementary school that uses authentic children's literature in its curriculum, hosting a well known author each year. This school invites nationally recognized authors and illustrators come and interact with children for a day and students are taken on numerous field trips to broaden their horizons. Olde Orchard also offers a core curriculum of English, math, science, social studies, health, art, music and physical education.
Columbus Alternative High School earned the Central Region Triple Crown Award from the Ohio School Boards Association in 2010, winning this award for the fifth consecutive year. It has been honored by Newsweek and U.S. News and World Report, and has been designated by the Ohio Department of Education as a School of Promise, a program recognizing high achievement for all students despite having large populations of traditionally underachieving groups of student.
Berwick Alternative offers classes for children from kindergarten to eighth grade, including hands-on science and math curricula to boost student engagement. Berwick Alternative places an emphasis on math, science, environmental studies and technology. Students in first through seventh grades attend an overnight camp experience as a part of Berwick's outdoor education curriculum.
Available for students in sixth through twelfth grades, the Columbus Africentric Early College provides students the opportunity to earn a high school diploma and an associate of arts or science transfer degree from Columbus State Community College upon completion of the program. The Columbus Africentric Early College offers a blend of Columbus City Schools' curriculum with traditional Africentric principles of "Nguzo Saba and Ma'at" or balance, harmony, justice, order, reciprocity, righteousness and truth. The Africentric Early College offers a school environment based on African-centered holistic perspectives and beliefs.
