Laughlin students in grades kindergarten through five attend William G. Bennett Elementary. During the 2009-2010 school year, 298 children enrolled in William G. Bennett, a decrease from the 360 enrollees in 2005-2006. Minority students accounted for just over 41 percent of the student body. In 2009, Bennett Elementary established a Gifted and Talented Education, or GATE, program to serve third, fourth and fifth grade students. Bennett maintains a 15 to one student-teacher ratio and has a per-pupil expenditure of $12,826.49. The school's curriculum includes an art and physical education program that includes TECLUB, ranked first in anti-obesity programs among the nation's elementary schools.
Laughlin Junior/Senior High School provides grade six through 12 education for Laughlin-area students. This school enrolled 409 students during the 2009-2010 school year, of which 36.2 percent were minority students. Average class size varied by subject, with a low of 15 for Social Studies courses and a high of 18 for English classes. The district spent $11,263.21 on each Laughlin Junior-Senior High School student in 2009-2010 and achieved a graduation rate of 81.4 percent. Students can participate in sports on a year-round basis, including baseball, boys' and girls' basketball, boys' wrestling and boys' and girls' cross-country. Students interested in the performing arts can join the drama club, which puts on a yearly spring play; middle school and high school students can sing in the respective choral ensembles.
Laughlin does not offer any preschool programs for children too young to enroll in kindergarten. Just across the eastern border with Arizona, the town of Bullhead City provides a number of preschool opportunities. Parents can enroll their children in the Montessori School House, which provides education for children under three in its Toddler Program as well as pre-K instruction for children ages three to six. This school sits four miles from Laughlin. Bullhead City also hosts the New Day School, which serves children from 12 months to age six.
The town of Laughlin does not contain any institutes of higher learning. Just across the Arizona border, The University of Arizona maintains a cooperative extension campus in Bullhead City. This campus sits about eight miles from Laughlin. Students can also attend Mohave Community College, about 10 miles south of Laughlin.
