Christian Faith Schools

Many Christian faith schools in the U.S. are independent boarding schools, where life is characterized by weekly chapel and prayer meetings, sporting activities, and study time and social activities in the evenings. Most Christian faith schools, which focus on intellectual and spiritual growth, are open to students from all faith backgrounds, but the founding faith will be prevalent.
  1. Portsmouth Abbey

    • Founded in 1926, Portsmouth Abbey is a Catholic coeducational boarding school for grades 9-12 in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. The school is founded on the Benedictine tradition and run by monks from the Order of Saint Benedict. Its mission is to help students "grow in knowledge and grace." The school is located on a sprawling 500-acre campus and includes high- quality sporting, academic and boarding facilities. Each dormitory has a Benedictine monk as Chaplain of the House. Students regularly attend chapel and weekly prayers. Annual fees in 2010-2011 were $44,850.

    St. Bernard Prep

    • St. Bernard Prep is a Catholic coeducational boarding school for grades 7-12 in Cullman, Alabama. The school is also founded on the Benedictine tradition and operated by monks from St. Bernard Abbey, alongside whom students live, study, and pray. Its mission is to engage students fully in "learning for the whole person -- mind, body and spirit." The school is located on an 800-acre campus that boasts a range of facilities. Annual fees in 2010-2011 were $20,000.

    St. Timothy's School

    • Founded in 1882, St. Timothy's School is an Episcopal boarding school for girls in grades 9-12 in Stevenson, Maryland. The school believes "it is just as important to nurture students in their spiritual growth as in their intellectual growth." Weekly chapel meetings are opportunities for students to learn about their own and other faiths. The academic program is based on the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, which prepares students for success in college and beyond. Annual fees in 2010-2011 were $44,300.

    St. Mary's School

    • Founded in 1842, St. Mary's School, an Episcopal boarding school for girls in grades 9-12 in Raleigh, North Carolina, is "dedicated to academic excellence and personal achievement." Students are expected to attend chapel on a regular basis to sing, pray and reflect. The school has a community service program that includes projects such as delivering food to shelters and food banks and raising money for the treatment of autism and AIDS. Annual fees in 2010-2011 were $39,144.
