Encourage your students to make a picture collage showcasing baby penguins and penguin eggs. Allow the kids to pick out their favorite color of card stock paper. Help them glue various pictures of baby penguins and eggs in random spots on the page. You can print out pictures online, buy photos from stock photo companies or cut out pictures from magazines. The kids can also decorate their collages with penguin stickers, fish (penguin food) and snowflake stickers because these birds live in cold climates.
Inspire your kindergarten students to paint or draw pictures of different types of penguins. Show them photos or video of the emperor, chinstrap, African, gentoo, king, rockhopper and macaroni. Have the children identify the names of different types and ask them which one they'd like to paint or draw. This activity helps kids learn that penguins come in different shapes, sizes and colors. Some penguins display traditional only black and white colors, while others have the tuxedo-patterned coat with hints of yellow around faces and chests. Beaks, heads and torso shapes also vary greatly between species.
Help your kindergarten students color penguins from coloring pages. Buy penguin-themed coloring books at the craft store or print out pages online. Cut out the colored pictures and glue them on card stock to make cards or hang them up.
Encourage your students to make penguin-themed pencil boxes for school. Buy a variety of stickers that showcase all types of penguins, baby penguins, eggs, icebergs, fish and other designs that remind you of arctic environments. Give the children plastic pencil boxes from the dollar store and remove all labels and stickers that came on the boxes. The kids might also want to glue on fake white gems that look like ice crystals. You can find plastic gems at the craft store.
