How to Make Board Game Spinners at School

Spinners are used to play many different board games. They may indicate how many spaces a player will move, how they should play or what points are worth. If you are making your own board game, a spinner is easy to make to direct game play. If you have lost the spinner from an existing board game, make one with a few inexpensive pieces that you might already have in your selection of classroom craft supplies.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a 5-inch wide circle on a piece of cardstock. Use a compass to create your circle or trace a circle with something you already have, like a dessert plate. If you don't have cardstock, thin cardboard from a cereal box or notebook is an alternative. Cut out the circle with scissors.

    • 2

Paint or color the circle with markers according to game play. For example, if the spinner is used to determine how many spaces the player will move, divide the circle into pie pieces and write different numbers in each slice.

    • 3

Draw a 2-inch long arrow on the cardstock or cardboard and cut out with a sharp craft knife. This will be the pointer for your handmade spinner.

    • 4

Mark the center of the circle with a pencil. Place a thin pony bead over the center and position the base end of the arrow over the bead.

    • 5

Press a metal brad through the base of the arrow and circle center through the bead. Turn the circle over and fold the prongs of the brad flat. This will secure the spinner in place.
