How to Cite Images

Citing images is often necessary when discussing photographs and illustrations in an academic or business context, because doing so can enable readers to efficiently verify your information by being directed to the appropriate material. Fortunately, citing images is quite straightforward and can be accomplished within a few minutes.

      Write the name of the photographer or artist, with their last name appearing first and their first name listed after a comma; for example, "Pollock, Jackson."

      Write the title of the work (underlined) and include the date it was produced (if known); for example, "Cathedral. 1947."

      Write the institution or individual who owns the work; for example, "Dallas Museum of Art."
