Write the author's last name followed by his first name. If the author was "Greg Smith," you would write that as "Smith, Greg" with a comma in between the last name and first name. If there are multiple authors, write only the first author's name using the last name, then the first name; list the subsequent authors' names by first name and last name. Example: "Smith, Greg, Amanda Burnett, and Toby Thompson." Put a period after the end of the author or authors' name(s).
Write the title of the research report and put it in quotes. Example: "Erosion Habits of Eastern Plants." Place a period before the end quote mark.
Write the name of the scholarly journal or website, using italic. After this, do not put a period; instead, put the volume or issue number of the journal, followed by the year of the issue in parentheses, and then a colon. If a volume or issue number and publication year do not exist, then put a period after the name of the journal or website.
Write the page numbers of the research report as shown in the scholarly journal, followed by a period. Example: "41-50." If there are no pages number, such as if the source is a website, then you may omit this information.
Write the type of source, either "Print" or "Web" followed by a period. If you used a print source, you are now done. If you used a website, write the date you last accessed the source --- in order of day, month abbreviated to first three letters with a period and then year. Example: 8 Feb. 2011.
