Find and record the name of the journal, name of the journal article, page numbers, author or authors, date of publication, volume number and issue number.
Create an alphabetized reference list (alphabetized by author's last name) at the back of your research paper. Type the name of the author (last name first). If multiple authors contributed to the journal article, provide the last name and first initials of each after the first author. Add a period at the end of the last author's name.
Type in the journal publication date using parenthesis followed by a period outside the parenthesis. Type in the name of journal article followed by a period. Type in the name of journal (in italics) followed by a comma. Type in the issue number followed by a comma. Type in the page numbers followed by a period.
Include the URL (website address) and the date you accessed the article when citing online journals. Type the word "Retrieved" and the date after the page numbers. Type in the URL after the accessed date.
Journal references with one author should look like this:
Doe, Jane. (2004) Proper Way to Use APA Format. Style Journal (Italicize journal name), 5, 56-58.
Journal references with more than one author should look like this:
Doe, Jane., and Excel, P. (2006) APA Format. Journal of Citations (Italicize), 6, 46-49.
Journals found online should look like this:
Doe, Jane. (2008) Online Citations. Online Journal (Italicize), 6, 66-69. Retrieved October 2, 2009,
