Obtain audio Latin lessons by downloading podcasts, online tutorials or sourcing audio CDs. For example, "Conversational Latin for Oral Proficiency" by Professor John Traupman is available on CD, or free lessons can be downloaded from Latinum.
Go to a quiet area that has access to equipment that can play your audio material. Test the volume before beginning to study; make sure the sound is loud enough for you to hear clearly. Turn off distractions like televisions or video games.
Start the audio course from the very beginning so you do not miss key learning areas. Write down important information such as grammar rules and vocabulary as you work through the material. Follow the audio guide's instructions closely so you get the best use out of the material that is being taught.
Complete one exercise or task at a time, and then practice it until you understand and remember. Repeat phrases and words out loud throughout each session, and give yourself a spelling test once a week to monitor your progress.
Listen to at least 15 minutes of audio material every day. Regular practice will be absorbed more easily. If you are struggling with lessons, write down the word or phrase you are struggling with and put it in your bathroom. Review it when you brush your teeth in the morning to try and get the hang of it.
Use your hands to help learn information that you are listening to. When new vocabulary pops up, spell it out in the air by drawing each letter with your finger. This technique helps your memory connect with the word formations so you learn quicker.
Create a list of your favorite words, phrases, poems or stories of Latin writers. Review the list once a week, and then try and think about these things occasionally. You will remember them more easily because you like them, which will boost your ability to learn the less enjoyable exercises.
Assign one Latin session a week to listening back to the audio you went through in the previous week. This way you recall the earlier exercises to refresh all the work you have done.
Record your own Latin audio tape to aid your learning. Get a voice recorder and read out your vocabulary list in Latin and then English, or vice versa. Say the words clearly and slowly, then listen back to it.
