How to Learn Polish Online With Audio

Polish is a Slavic language spoken by approximately 43 million people worldwide. It is primarily spoken in Poland where it serves as the official language, but it is also spoken throughout Russia, the United States and Canada. If you are interested in learning some Polish and don't want to take a formal class, then you can learn at your own pace using online audio resources.

      Go to MeetPoland. This site provides a free series of audio lessons after you sign up for its newsletter by providing your name and email address. There are 16 lessons in all, and there are new ones added from time to time. The lessons start off covering the basics such as the alphabet, subject pronouns, numbers and how to conjugate verbs. They then progress to greetings, departures, shopping, restaurants, months, days of the week and seasons. In addition to the audio lessons that are emailed to you, there is information about the country on the website. It covers the history of Poland, suggests places to visit, where to stay and even has a section about employment.

      Use ABC School of Polish. This website has 13 video dialogues (with English subtitles), 12 grammar lessons and 14 vocabulary lessons. If you click on the "Extra Learning Materials" beneath the videos, there are links to additional audio lessons and a word document containing lessons. Some of the audio lessons are songs that you can use to learn Polish, but they also include dialogues for day-to-day situations, like what to say at a restaurant or coffee shop. All of the lessons on the site are free, but if you would like to study more formally the site also offers one-to-one lessons in Poland complete with a family home stay.

      Use Radio Lingua. This site provides what they call "One-Minute Polish." There are 10 lessons in all, and each is two to five minutes in length. This system is designed to cover the very basics of the language and covers topics like how to say hello and goodbye, how to count from one to 10, how to ask people for their name and how to introduce yourself. Although these lessons are free, the site does offer an upgraded version that includes a study guide and an enhanced podcast that allows users to view the words on their iPod screens. The premium package costs $7.50 as of 2011.
