Open a new Word document. Click "Page Setup" under the "File" menu and set all margins around the page to 0. Override the error message that pops up when you eliminate the margins.
Create a table on the document with three rows and two columns. Stretch the row dividers to create six equally sized boxes. Each box represents one flash card. Repeat this process on the next page so the document encompasses the front and back of six separate cards. Save this document as a template for quick and easy recollection when creating future flash cards.
Enter the information that you want to appear on the front of each card on the first page. This is generally a single word or brief phrase. If you are making math flash cards, the math problem should appear on the front of the card.
Click the "center" button from the alignment tools in the toolbar to center the text within each cell of the table. Hit enter three or four times to position the text in the center of the card vertically, as well. Each cell of the table represents a different card, so be sure to enter information for only one card in each cell.
Enter the information for the back of the card on the second page. This should be a definition, explanation or the answer to the math problem. Include as much information as needed for you to fully understand the issue in question.
Place the information that corresponds with the cards on the left side of the first page in the cells on the right side of the second page and vice versa. The vertical position of the cells will stay the same. For example, the information for the back of the top right-hand card on the first page should be placed in the top left-hand card on the second page. A single answer or short phrase should be centered on the card in the same manner described in Step 3. If you have several pieces of information, list the various facts in bullet point format, aligned to the left of the card. Select "Bullets and Numbering" from the "Format" menu and click on the bullet point style desired for your cards.
Print the first page of the document onto a sheet of 8 1/2-by-11-inch cardstock. Turn the page over and print the second page of the document onto the opposite side of the cardstock.
Cut the cardstock into individual flash cards. Punch a hole in the upper left corner of each card and secure the entire set together with an index card ring. This will help keep collections of small cards together for easy review.
