How to Set Dreamweaver Cs3 Preferences

Setting CS3 preferences lets you create your Web development workspace so you can be more productive. Dreamweaver's CS3 main preference categories include General, Accessibility, AP Elements, Code Coloring and Code Format, among others. Setting the properties in these categories will give you the ability to set your default image editors, Web browser, opening documents and your default HTML validators.

      Start Dreamweaver CS3. Click the "Edit" menu from Dreamweaver's main menu bar. Click the "Preferences" option from the "Edit" menu to display the main "Preferences" dialog box.

      Click the "General" option in the "Category" list box of the "Preferences" dialog box. Click the "Show Welcome Screen" check box to remove the check box and prevent the Dreamweaver "Welcome Screen" from appearing when you start Dreamweaver CS3. Click the "Reopen documents on startup" check box to place a check mark and have Dreamweaver open the most recent document you worked on when you start Dreamweaver. Click the "OK" button to finalize and save your new "General" settings.

      Click the "File Types/Editors" option for the "Category" list box in the "Preferences" dialog box. Click the file type in the "Extensions" list you want to edit with a specific editor image editor. Click the image editor in the "Editors" list box that you want to use to edit the specific file type you selected from the "Extensions" list box. Click the "+" button to navigate to and select the image editor program, Click the "Make Primary" button in the "Preferences" dialog box to make the image editor program your primary Dreamweaver inline image editor. Click the "OK" button to finalize the new "File Types/Editor" settings

      Click the "Preview in Browser" option from the "Category" list in the "Properties" dialog box. Click the "+" button to add a Web browser in order to preview your Web page in. Type in a name for your Web browser name that is easy to remember in the "Add Browser" dialog box that appears. Click the "Browse" button in this dialog box to navigate to and select the Web browser program you want to use. Click the "OK" button in the "Add Browser," and then click the "Primary browser" check box to make this Web browser your primary browser. Click the "OK" button to finalize and save the new "Preview in Browser" settings.

      Click the "Validator" option from the "Category" list box in the "Preferences" dialog box. Click the markup language version in the "Validator" list box that you want to validate your Dreamweaver markup code with (if a "DOCTYPE" is not specified in the Dreamweaver html code). Click the "OK" button to save and finalize the new "Validator" settings.
