How to Transfer Credits From MCI

While in the Marines, you might have gotten credits at MCI, the Marine Corps Institute. Although MCI is an accredited institution, which means that all credits should transfer to other accredited institutions, the decision about whether credits will transfer is always up to the receiving school. Therefore, your new school will decide if the credits transfer. In order to get the ball rolling, you need to request those transfer credits by ordering a transcript and having it sent to your new school.

Instructions

    • 1

Notify the school of your choice that you were a student at MCI. Include the dates you were a student and what courses you took or degrees you obtained.

    • 2

Request a transcript to be sent from MCI to your new school. Do this in one of three ways: by going to the website at mci.usmc.mil/ and filling out a transcript request form, by calling 800-MCI-USMC, Monday through Friday from 0730 to 1700, or by writing to Marine Corps Institute, specifying "ATTN: Registrar" at 912 Charles Poor Street SE, Washington Navy Yard D.C. 20391-5680.

    • 3

Fill out a credit transfer request form with your new school by speaking to your registrar at the new school and following directions. This should happen after your new school has already received a transcript from MCI. Some schools will have you request certain credits to be transfered over the phone, in writing, in person or online. Other schools will scan your transcript and transfer any credits that they deem eligible to the new school automatically.
