How to Transfer English Credits

Credits in a college or high school setting represent the number of hours you spent studying a particular subject. Each school has its own system for how many credits for each subject are required to graduate, or to finish a program. If you want to transfer English credits between high schools, between colleges, or from high school advanced classes to a college class, you will have a process to follow, which will be different based on each school.

Instructions

    • 1

Contact the school where you earned the English credits. Double check that the credits are on your transcript, and get the names of the courses in which you earned the credits.

    • 2

Contact the school you hope to transfer the credits. It is a good idea to first contact the head of the English department. Read her the names of the classes and give a short description of the coursework. The head of the department can tell you whether there are any required courses that your credits might fulfill.

    • 3

Contact the registrar at your previous school. Ask that your transcripts be sent to your new school.

    • 4

Contact your new school's registrar. Double check that the transcripts arrived. Then, ask the registrar about the specific process you need to follow to make sure those English credits transfer. Each school's process is different - some transfer credits automatically, while others require you to fill out forms and request those credits to transfer.
