How to Transfer a College Degree From Overseas

Getting into a college from overseas requires that you send your transcript to show what college credits you have taken and what degree you earned. Most colleges recognize foreign credits from accredited schools. However, you need to check with your specific college you plan to attend. There are a few steps to sending your college degree from overseas.

Instructions

    • 1

Read the admission requirements and rules of the college you want to transfer to on their transfer admission requirements page. Most United States colleges and universities accept foreign college credits depending on the type of institution. For instance, University of Virginia only grants credits for courses taken at tertiary-level institutions and institutions authorized by their national governments such as through Ministries of Education.

    • 2

Contact the college transfer credit evaluator at the college you want to attend. Look for contact information on the college's registrar or admissions pages. Call the contact administrator and speak to them about your college transfer. Ask what documents they need, what dates to send by and how to send them, either by mail, fax or email. Write down the mailing address, fax number or email address.

    • 3

Request your official transcripts from your current college that show your college credits taken and degree received. You also need to show your GPA and test scores. Your college may require a fee to send the official documents.

    • 4

Apply for admission at the university. Most colleges conduct admissions online. During the application process, you specify your country and school's name. Colleges may request information from your current college if you provide the contact information, in which case you need to check with your college to make sure they received a request and sent the official transcript to the school.

    • 5

Call the U.S. university's admissions office to check the status of your documents. You want to wait a period of three-14 days depending on how the official documents were sent. In some cases, you can check your status online at the U.S. university to see if they received the transcripts or not.
