Decide which college or university you would like to transfer to. Research schools and compare your choices based on their academic programs, the size of the school, its location and any other important criteria you may have for a transfer school.
Research whether your current college has a relationship with another college of interest. For example, some community colleges often have relationships with larger four-year institutions, making it easier to transfer earned college credits.
Obtain a copy of your official transcript from your current school.
Meet with an adviser at your current college and explain your intent to transfer. Your adviser can explain your transcript and give pointers on what you need to do to transfer to another college. She may also suggest courses for you to take that are most likely to be easily transferable.
Contact an admissions counselor at your transfer school to discuss transfer requirements. Note any deadlines for transfer admission and financial aid.
Gather all necessary documentation required by the transfer school, including transcripts, and forward these along with a transfer admission application and any required financial aid applications.
