Security Officers Academy Training

A security officer's primary objective is to protect the persons or property for which she has been recruited. Individuals interested in a career in the security field can pursue training at a public or private training facility to become familiar with governing regulations, security techniques and procedures inherent in the field.
  1. Programs

    • A variety of security training programs are available at public and private facilities throughout the United States for individuals in the security field or for those interested in a career as a security officer. Some programs are taught by former security officers, while others are taught by individuals certified by the Department of Justice as law enforcement trainers.

    Specialties

    • Individuals interested in the general field of security can enroll in a basic introductory course. Programs are also available for individuals interested in particular fields of security, including school and campus security and correctional facilities.

    Curriculum

    • Basic introductory security training courses are approximately 16 hours long. Topics addressed throughout a program include the legal and ethical aspects of security, emergency preparedness and safety, physical security, patrol procedures, electronic alarms and anti-terrorist training. Advanced and specialty training are available in defense and arrest tactics, SWAT building clearing, bomb recognition, domestic violence, riot squads, K-9 training and patrol vehicle operations.
