Fun Things to Do on Campus

College is a time to expand your mind through interesting courses, ranging from math and science to foreign languages and history. College also provides the chance to pursue the extra-curricular activities available on campus. Whether it is a club devoted to your favorite interests, or discovering a new spectator sport, college campuses offer students several opportunities to have fun and forget about academics for a while.
  1. Clubs

    • No matter what your interest, most colleges have a club devoted to it. Collegiate clubs include groups espousing political and social views and activities, clubs for academic endeavors like art, history or drama, fraternities and sororities and even sports clubs. Each club offers activities for its members on campus and provides a way to become more involved with the student community. Clubs are usually advertised via flyers in the Student Union, in the college newspaper and on the college's website. While there are usually monthly or yearly dues, clubs organize several outings and activities with the money collected.

    College Sports

    • Many colleges offer a wide variety of spectator sports for students. From popular sports like football, basketball and baseball, to more unique events like crew, tennis and curling, students can witness high-level athletic competition, often for free. For some athletes, college sports represent the final level before turning professional, so students can see future pro athletes honing their skills. A school's sports offerings are listed on the college website, along with the schedule and ticket information.

    Parties

    • Whether it's at a fraternity, apartment or other venue, most college students let loose on the weekends and have parties. Parties can be themed, like Halloween parties or Valentine's Day mixers, or simple affairs, like pre-game cocktail parties. Many are advertised on flyers or social network sites. Parties provide an opportunity to meet your fellow students in a more casual, social environment. Be sure to party responsibly.

    Guest Lectures

    • Living in an academic community offers a plethora of extracurricular activities for learning beyond the classroom. Guest lecturers and traveling speakers are often booked to speak in lecture halls or auditoriums on a range of subjects. Finding one that piques your interest is part of the fun of collegiate academic discovery. Professors hosting guest speakers will advertise the event in their classes or on their website, while other opportunities are passed on via social networking sites or flyers. These guest lectures provide a forum to hear and converse with world-renowned authors, scientists, actors and other luminaries.
