Stop buying fast food. Sure it's convenient, but if you add up how much you spend on fast food each week, you'll find that this same amount can be stretched much further at the grocery store. Prove to yourself just how much you can save by tracking your fast food spending for a week. Use that same amount of money at the grocery store the following week. You'll be surprised how much more you could be getting for each dollar.

Stay on campus. Gassing up the car to drive off campus can add up to a hefty price at the pump. College campuses are designed to accommodate the lifestyles of those who live there. If you can find a way to meet a need on campus, why bother leaving?

Plan efficient off-campus trips. Even when you try to do everything on campus, eventually you'll need to leave. Substantially reduce your gas costs by making these trips as productive as possible. Plan your excursions so that you can run all your off-campus errands in one trip. Better yet, bring your roommate along and split the cost.

Take advantage of secondhand goods. Buy your text books secondhand (assuming they are the proper edition). Small kitchen appliances, clothing and even furniture are all available at local resale shops at prices well under retail, as well. Garage sales are another excellent way to find secondhand bargains.
