Tutor students in a variety of subjects. Help fellow students at your college, or students who attend local elementary schools, middle schools and high schools. This idea for a college student to make money fits perfectly for an education major, but anyone with a clear and advanced grasp of a subject can work as a tutor. Post fliers around campus advertising your services. Charge by the hour, or per session. Hold the tutoring sessions in the school library, student activity center, or another public location.
Work as a typist or word processor, producing research papers, reports and other documents for other students. Charge students either by the page, or by the word count. Require that students deliver a rough draft of the document to you. If you have to correct grammatical errors, add missing information to the document, or have it typed in less than 24 hours, impose a surcharge. Make a backup copy of the documents, just in case students misplace or accidentally destroy it. However, charge the students a fee to print their documents.
Offer a hand to students during move-in and move-out periods. During the fall, charge to move their things into their dorm rooms or apartments. Also offer to set up furniture, computers, televisions and other household items for a separate fee. When students move out, charge them a fee to dismantle their furniture and pack up their things for them. If you use your truck to haul their things in, charge the students for gas and mileage. You can also charge for any boxes, packing tape and other supplies that you use.
Help students comprehend their lectures by taking notes for them. Charge the students for these services, or sell lecture notes that you have taken in your classes. Students who take the same classes that you are enrolled in can use the notes. Write clearly so others can understand your notes. Don't use shorthand, abbreviations or codes that might be hard for others to decipher. When taking notes on lectures, use a tape recorder to make sure you catch everything that the professor discussed.
