Campus Fundraiser Ideas

Many college organizations rely on fundraising to provide their annual budgets; the money raised is used to support the functions and activities of the group. As you plan fundraisers to hold on campus, consider how you can host events that will appeal to students living on a limited budget and to their families.
  1. Powder Puff Football

    • Powder puff football is an old college favorite; the novelty of seeing women playing football can attract the attention of both male and female college students. Hold a powder puff football tournament as a fundraiser. Ask groups of girls to sign up for teams, and find groups of men to be cheerleaders, skirts and all. Charge a fee to enter the game and sell refreshments to boost your fundraising. For a better turnout, hold the event in conjunction with another major university function.

    Home-Cooked Meals

    • When you are a college student, home-cooked meals are few and far between, especially if you live in the dorms. For a fundraiser that will give students a taste of home, offer home-cooked meals for sale. Find people who know how to cook and use the dorm kitchens to put together comfort foods like casseroles, roasted chicken, and local specialties. Allow people to buy items individually or as a meal.

    Open Mic

    • Give students the chance to show off their talents with an open mic night fundraiser. Work with a local bar to sponsor the event or set it up in a dorm common area. Invite students and professors on campus to participate with an instrumental or vocal performance; you can even open up participation to stand-up comedians or spoken-word artists. Charge a cover fee and sell drinks and refreshments to raise money for your organization.

    Final Exam Care Packages

    • Involve parents in your fundraising efforts by holding a final exam care package sale at the end of the semester or around midterms. Put together packages that include home-made cookies and snacks, caffeine, and items to help survive the testing period. Offer the option to include gift cards for coffee shops or delivery restaurants, and give some level of customization for things like DVDs and dietary preferences. Advertise your care package fundraiser to parents about a month before exams and require payment up front; put the packages together and deliver in person.
