How to Make Over Girls' Dorm Rooms

Many dorm rooms are cramped areas with few luxuries. While this space itself often leaves much to desire, it can still be a pleasing place if attention is paid to interior design. Redecorating a dorm room often presents a challenge because there are limitations to the modifications that you can make to the space. By carefully selecting and adding decorations, you can change your bland dorm room into a girly home away from home while still staying within the dorm modification rules.

Instructions

Select dominant bed linens. The bed is usually the most prominent feature of a dorm room as it is commonly the largest piece of furnishing. Make this prominent piece pop by selecting bright bed linens that coordinate well. Check with the college prior to selecting bed linens, as many colleges have twin extra-long beds, which require specialized linens.

Acquire complementary window coverings. While most dorms come equipped with standard blinds, these functional window coverings are not aesthetically pleasing. Add some drapes that match your bed linens. If the dorm does not have a curtain rod, use a tension mounted rod so that you can avoid making the often forbidden holes in the wall.

Use throw pillows for splashes of color. Throw pillows are often inexpensive and can easily transform a space. Carry your color scheme throughout the room by selecting and placing throw pillows. Place pillows on your bed, sofa and chair to add cohesiveness to the decor.

Select aesthetically pleasing desk accessories. Your desk accessories do are not just utilitarian but will actually be on display at all times. Pick colorful accessories that match to ensure that your desk is just as pleasing as the rest of the room.desk is just as pleasing as the rest of the room.

Add several lamps. Standard lamps are the antidote to the harsh florescent lighting that is common in a dorm room. Place a lamp next to your bed and another on your desk. By using these lighting pieces instead of the standard light, you improve the overall quality of your lighting and make your room more pleasing to visitors.

Cover the walls with posters. While schools generally do not allow painting the walls in a dorm space, you are not stuck with bland walls. Purchase movie or band posters, and affix them to the wall using removable sticky tack or another adhesive that will not mar the wall's surface.
