Organize your dorm room with your roommate(s). To enjoy the space you share with another person, regular cleaning and organizing are important. Remove items from the floor. Reduce the number of items on the desks and beds, and on all surface areas. Use vertical storage shelving, bins and racks. Share big items, such as the TV and futon, to increase space. Organize the furniture in the room so that there's space for people to walk through. Put the beds, desks, shelves and chests of drawers against the walls. Use the corners.
Get desk lamps and floor lamp to ensure you have enough light for studying. Unless your roommate is playing video games, watching TV or chatting on the phone, a dorm room is a great place to study. Open the blinds/curtains to get natural light. Avoid distractions, such as a cell phone and TV, around your desk. Decorate the area around your desk with plants, books, a calendar and/or motivational notes. Get a sturdy office chair.
Get snacks, small appliances and utensils for small meals. They don't take up a lot of space but will give you huge returns in enjoyment. You can make yourself and your friends hot beverages and a small meal in your dorm room. Keep your favorite snacks and beverages on hand. Purchase a coffeemaker, microwave and/or a fridge. Having these items helps you get through the nights before exams without having to go out to eat. Keep a supply of breakfast items so you can save time and money in the morning.
