How to Clean a Dorm

College can be the first time in your life when there are no parents around to tell you to clean your room. Limited storage space and messy roommates can make it difficult to keep your dorm clean. Make sure you have access to cleaning tools such as a vacuum. Keep a cleaning schedule to help prevent messes from getting out of control.

Instructions

    • 1

Vacuum your dorm room once a week. Change the vacuum bag every 2 to 3 months. A mini-vacuum works well when your storage space is limited.

    • 2

Put all your clothes in the closet. Leaving clothes on the bed and around the room makes the room look messy. Dirty clothes go in your clothes hamper.

    • 3

Make your bed when you wake up each morning. A made bed instantly makes the room look cleaner.

    • 4

Throw trash away daily. You can keep a trash can next to your desk. Don't leave empty pop cans and food wrappers lying around. Only keep things you need. Every additional item you save takes up storage space and makes it harder to keep your dorm clean.

Choose specific days of the month to clean your dorm with your roommate. Rotate cleaning duties if you have several suite mates and need to clean common areas such as a bathroom. Without a schedule cleaning can easily be forgotten.
