How to Keep a Dorm Room Clean

As a college student, you will not only get some freedom from your parents, but you will also gain some responsibilities. Your dorm room should be one of the most important responsibilities while at college. Instructions

    • 1

Set up a cleaning agreement and calendar with your roommate. Agree to keep the room picked up and organized at all times and determine who will clean what and when.

    • 2

Keep paper towels available at all times. This way if something gets spilled in your dorm room you can clean it up immediately.

    • 3

Empty your trash daily. Remove and replace your trash bag every morning before leaving for class. This should be done regardless of whether it is full or not, which will prevent spoiled food from smelling up your room.

    • 4

Vacuum or dust the floor at least once a week. Run the floor duster or vacuum underneath the bed and in the corners to prevent dust and dirt buildup.

    • 5

Wipe down furniture and table tops on a regular basis. Keep moistened cleaning wipes on hand at all times and run over furniture a few times a week to keep things fresh and disinfected.

    • 6

Wash your laundry on a regular basis. Keeping your dirty laundry pile small will prevent the smell of sweaty clothes from filling your room.

    • 7

Toss out old food and clean out the refrigerator on a regular basis. Toss out anything that is expired and take out food that is more than a few days old.

    • 8

Keep a plug-in air freshener in your room. Speak to your roommate before using an air freshener so the two of you can agree on a scent.
