Make a schedule including all class, study and work activities plus any existing obligations.
Look for openings in the existing schedule.
Add "Active Time" to your schedule in the category for allowed openings. You may designate this category whatever you like; however, it is important to establish this category in your calendar.
Think of activities that are offered in your location. If you are studying in a climate that is conducive to outdoor activities, consider these activities, as they may be available at minimal cost to you as a student. Look into hiking or biking trails or swimming opportunities. If indoor activities are more attractive, check with your school gymnasium for the program of activities.
Check your school newspaper and bulletin boards for activities. Intramural teams may be looking for members, or perhaps leagues are available for which you can form your own team. Volleyball and softball are popular activities.
Talk to friends and classmates about activities that may interest you. Ask about teams or groups that may be available on campus. Inquire about the activities in which your classmates engage, and if these activities interest you, ask if you can join.
Decide on an activity that fits into your schedule and add that activity to your schedule in "Active Time."
Select the proper attire for your activity --- depending on the activity and the climate. Some type of athletic shorts or pants and top with proper footwear (for instance, running or hiking shoes, depending on the terrain) will most likely be appropriate.
Prepare the necessary equipment for your chosen activity. For example, a softball game may require a glove or bat. If you are going for a bike ride, be sure to tune your bike, inflate your tires and bring a helmet.
Arrive at the designated area for the activity, as scheduled, and meet with the group, if you have selected to participate in a team activity or a class at the gym.
Engage in your activity. Enjoy being an active college student!
