College Senior Activities

The senior year of college can be an exciting yet intimidating year for many students. While celebrating their accomplishments at their college or university, the students are also preparing for the future. As a result, college senior activities are generally a mixture of celebration and networking.
  1. Senior Class Reception

    • Colleges often congratulate their seniors through a variety of senior class receptions. Senior class receptions can take the forms of senior dinners or wine and dessert parties. Often the President of the college will make a speech congratulating the seniors on their accomplishments. At senior receptions, each senior is generally presented with a small gift from the college or university. Activities during the reception often include reminiscent slideshows, speeches from class presidents, and toasts to the students.

    Senior Department Reception

    • Senior department receptions provides students with a more intimate congratulatory setting than senior class receptions. For department receptions, heads of the college departments invite graduating seniors to attend smaller dinners or wine receptions. Students are separated by major or emphasis. Outstanding seniors are often presented with awards from professors while all are congratulated on their achievements over the past years.

    Job Fairs

    • Job fairs provide seniors with the necessary step up into the world after college. Hiring companies set up tables in a dining hall or auditorium and share information about job life with graduating seniors. Seniors are expected to bring their resumes and dress in professional attire. If you make a good impression at the job fair, you might just get a reference or a job.

    Alumni Nights

    • Alumni nights are a common happening on college campuses. Graduating senior students are invited to an informal dinner or dessert party with alumni from their college. Attending alumni can provide the seniors with helpful tips about how to get hired and make the transition from college into the job world. Along with sharing their knowledge and experience, alumni nights are a great way to network. Bring your resume just in case. Seniors who make a good impression can expect recommendations or job offers from successful alumni.
