Read any instructions from the professor on how to format the front page of your term paper. Specifically, pay attention to whether it is supposed to be in MLA style, APA style, or another style. If a style is not mentioned, check to see whether there is a list of components that need to be included on the front page.
Type the necessary information onto the page. The author's full name and the title of the paper are required elements for the front page of a term paper. Other relevant information may include the professor's name, the class title and the date of submission.
Format the information as requested by the professor or the style guide for the paper. The front page can just contain the relevant pieces of information on the left at the top of the paper, with the title centered below. For a paper with a separate title page, each element should be centered between the left and right sides, and the page should be balanced vertically as well.
Make a header that has page numbers flush right. In addition, flush left, type "Running head:" followed by a shortened version of your title that is 50 characters or less and is in all capital letters. This header should appear on all other pages as well, but with "Running head:" omitted.
Type the title of the paper about two-fifths of the way down the page. The title should be centered on one or two lines, and be no more than 12 words long.
Type the author's first name, middle initial and last name directly below the title of the paper.
Type the author's affiliated school on the line directly below the author's name.
Make a header on the front page that contains your last name, one space and the page number, all aligned flush right.
Type your name on the first line of the page, flush left. On the following three lines type your professor's name, the title of the class and the date of submission for the term paper. The date of submission should be formatted with the day of the month, the name of the month and then the year. There should be one space and no commas between each of these three elements of the date.
Type the title of the paper on the next line, centered between the left and right margins. If the title is too long for one line, it can be broken at a logical place onto two lines.
Include the text of the term paper on the front page rather than leaving the rest of the front page blank and starting on a new page.
