Austin Community College District of Texas offers programs to become an accounting clerk, technician or specialist. The accounting clerk program requires the completion of 32 credit hours and includes introductory courses to accounting, computerized accounting and keyboarding. The associate's degree in accounting requires the completion of 20 courses such as macroeconomics, business law, intermediate accounting and cost accounting. As of 2011, tuition and fees are $42 for residents of the Austin Community College district; $150 for Texas residents not living in the Austin Community College district; and $288 for nonresidents.
Salt Lake Community College in Utah offers an accounting certificate, an accounting clerk program and an associate's degree in accounting. The accounting certificate requires the completion of 33 credit hours and includes such courses as financial accounting, information systems and business communications. The associate degree requires 68 hours for graduation and includes courses in financial and intermediate accounting, macroeconomics and business law. The accounting clerk program includes courses in business communication, spreadsheets, QuickBooks and records management. Costs vary based on the program.
