Chicago Area Accounting Schools

In good or bad economic times, accountants can keep busy. In good times, they're needed by businesses to keep them successful, and in bad times they're necessary to find out how things went wrong. Accountants can specialize in a variety of fields: tax, auditing, banking, consulting, work as controllers, and work in either the private or public sector. Chicago offers several schools awarding degrees or certificates in accounting.
  1. Northwestern College

    • Northwestern offers an accounting certificate program through its School of Commerce. Completion of courses for the certificate includes 35 credit hours. The required courses consist of financial accounting, business law, computerized accounting, college mathematics, composition, professional development, spreadsheets and income taxes. According to the website, certificate programs "are most appropriate for individuals who wish to gain career skills in as short a time as possible without a degree."
