Minnesota Accounting Schools

The Minnesota state colleges and universities system includes two-year colleges, state colleges, technical colleges and state universities separate from the University of Minnesota. Minnesota colleges and universities educate more than 400,000 students each year in credit and noncredit courses, and graduate more than 35,000 students each year.   1. Accounting Careers

    • Careers in accounting encompass bookkeeping, finance, management, public accounting and corporate accounting. Accounting offers opportunities in state and federal government, as well as nonprofit organizations. Accounting graduates work in banks, in accounting firms, in government, and for small and large businesses.

      Accounting professionals work as accountants, accounting managers or supervisors, assistant controllers, accounting educators, auditors, bookkeepers, controllers, chief financial officers, directors, financial analysts, payroll administrators or tax specialists.

      A career in accounting requires at least a two-year degree in accounting, and management positions require a four-year degree and an advanced degree like a master's degree or certified public accounting certification.

    Community Colleges

    • Minnesota's 25 two-year community colleges throughout the state offer certificates, diplomas and associate degrees in more than 100 accounting programs on-campus and online. Accounting students studying at one of Minnesota's two-year colleges go on to careers as accounting clerks, accounting specialists and bookkeepers.

      A two-year accounting diploma or degree can be the first part of an accounting education if students continue on to complete a four-year degree and an advanced degree.

    State Universities

    • Minnesota has seven state universities, including Bemidji State University, Minnesota State University Mankato, Minnesota State University Moorehead, Winona State University, St. Cloud State University, Southwest Minnesota State University and Metropolitan State University.

      Minnesota's state universities provide higher education on beautiful campuses with high-tech and highly rated facilities. Minnesota is a good place to get a good rate for your accounting education even if you don't live there. Minnesota state colleges and universities offer reduced out-of-state tuition to residents of Wisconsin, Canada, Manitoba, North Dakota and South Dakota.

      Twenty-three of the state's colleges and universities offer in-state rates to students from other states through reciprocity agreements.

      The average 2010-2011 tuition and fees at Minnesota's state colleges and universities are less than $7,000 per year, offering good value for quality higher education.

    University of Minnesota

    • The University of Minnesota's accounting program offers bachelor's level course work for a degree after 120 credits. Accounting course work includes cost accounting, auditing, income tax and business law.

      The University offers an accounting degree option totally online through the University of Minnesota, Crookston Online.

      The University offers Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant and Certified Internal Auditor certification examinations to students who complete the 120 credit hours of accounting.
