Penn State provides a master's degree in teaching early childhood, kindergarten and elementary education, as well as teaching English as a second language, mathematics, science and social studies. Students are required to fulfill the required courses offered by the graduate curriculum, completing 30 credits. Students must also complete a dissertation about an educational problem or issue.

The Philadelphia Education Fund offers a teaching program, Philadelphia Teacher Residency, for college graduates to teach math and science in Philadelphia's underresourced schools. Students take courses at the graduate school of education at the University of Pennsylvania, earning a master's degree and a Pennsylvania teacher certification. An eligible candidate must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and hold a bachelor's degree in mathematical sciences, engineering, general science, biology, physics or chemistry.

To qualify for post-baccalaureate certification, undergraduate students are required to complete 12 credits at Messiah College and earn an accumulative GPA of 3.0. The GPA from a master's degree program at an accredited school may also be considered. Applicants must be clear of any criminal records and submit the following: coursework transcripts, PRAXIS I test scores, two reference faculty letters--except for Messiah College students--and a written declaration of student teaching experience. Once accepted, students must participate in the Teacher Education Program.

Saint Vincent College offers the following graduate teaching programs for candidates wishing to work with grades K to 12: curriculum and instruction, library science, instructional technology, special education (N to 12), environmental science, and school administration and supervision. Each graduate program offers a one-night-a-week evening course for seven weeks with a final comprehensive exam. Those who wish to obtain Pennsylvania principal certification must have at least five years of teaching experience.

Temple University offers a graduate certification program for candidates outside of education. After completing the program, students earn a master of education degree and qualify for the Pennsylvania Instructional I Certificate. The program specializes in career and technical, elementary, secondary and special education. The following factors decide admission: three recommendation letters, two professional objectives statements, two undergraduate and or graduate transcripts, scores from the either the Graduate Record Examination or Miller Analogies Test, and the PRAXIS I tests.
