German Cooking Schools

German cuisine is diverse and varies according to region. Bavarian cuisine is perhaps the most popular worldwide, but there is a range of regional cuisine, including that of Thuringia, Saxony and Franconia, to be experienced. Culinary schools have picked up in a big way all over Germany and offer courses to locals as well as travelers looking to learn about cuisine. Apart from German cuisine, many schools focus on world cuisine as well and specialize in Thai, Italian and Indian dishes. Most of these schools operate in the form of a kitchen, providing all the essential equipment for a group to come and cook. Cooking is often regarded as a form of entertainment for a group to spend an evening cooking together.
  1. Kochen and Wurzen

    • Located in Berlin, this cooking school offers all the essentials: kitchen tools, cookbooks, necessary oils and ingredients. What they specialize in, however, are homemade spice blends and fine wines. A range of wines from Spain, Italy, France and Germany are on offer, along with fine German and Swiss chocolate. They operate from Tuesday to Friday and also on Saturday. The program includes classes in a variety of world cuisine, including Thai, Indian and Italian.

    Gekreuzte Mohrchen

    • Waving Carrots, as it is also known, is a favorite two-kitchen space for rent in Hamburg. Ideally located between St. Pauli and Schanzenviertel in Bernstorffstrasse, this kitchen is equipped with a six-burner gas stove, all necessary crockery and cutlery, essential spices and cooking oils. It houses a maximum of 20 people and operates between 5 p.m. and 1 a.m. Chefs are available for guidance and take courses for a party size of eight people.

    Cafe Kubitschek

    • Located in Munich, this cafe-style cooking school serves patrons cakes and pies daily while also conducting themed cooking classes. Classes are conducted outside the cafe's operational hours. Some of its popular courses include the "Chocolate course with 10,000 calories," "Chocolates/Petitesfour with Elisabeth Guschak" and the "Summer Sun with Jana Bio." Each course is priced differently and is conducted by an expert.

    Schuhbecks

    • In the midst of Munich, celebrity chef Alfons Schuhbeck runs a cooking school along with his Michelin Star-rated restaurant. He and his team teach staple cuisines like Bavarian, Italian and German and also hold special classes for spices, sauces or seasonal cooking. A special school is available for beginners, teaching the basics of cooking methods, cutting meat and filleting fish.
